Even small amounts of oil can result in impacts on juvenile fish and shellfish as can the seismic testing used to map offshore oil and gas.
Numerous research studies by U.S. researchers have shown that even minute amounts of oil - as low as one part per billion - can result in birth rate declines and stunted growth among juvenile fish, including salmon and herring. The effect is felt throughout the ecosystem from shellfish to halibut.
Seismic testing used to map the potential deposits of offshore oil and gas has been shown to negatively affect a wide variety of fish species.
We will continue to advocate for a continuation of the moratorium on offshore oil and gas exploration. We are active member of the Oil Free Coast coalition.
