Household

Our homes can be a significant source of pollution.

Our homes can be a significant source of pollution, for instance they are one of the leading sources of PBDEs (polybrominated diphenyl ethers)

1. PBDEs build up in the fat tissue of living organisms.

2. Some PBDEs have been linked to brain and thyroid problems in laboratory rodents.

3. The levels of PBDEs in people’s bodies are doubling every 2 to 5 years, and are 40 times higher in North America than on other continents.

We are quickly approaching levels in humans that are known to cause problems in laboratory rodents.
