Sustainabile Fisheries

Sustainable fisheries can be evaluated against four main criteria: 1) stock health; 2) fishery management practices; 3) social equity; and 4) ecosystem and habitat impacts.

“In the context of marine ecosystems, sustainability is the characteristic of resources that are managed so that the natural capital stock is non-declining through time, while production opportunities are maintained for the future” Sutinen, NOAA 2000

The UN FAO Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries is the international standard by which many fisheries are evaluated.
