Inside Your home

Phase out use of toxic products

Our homes can be a significant source of pollution, for instance they are one of the leading sources of PBDEs (polybrominated diphenyl ethers).

Create a healthier home by:

  • use toxin free cleaners;
  • reducing, reusing, recycling, redesigning, repairing and reclaiming;
  • making it energy efficient;
  • use natural products; and
  • filling it with plants.

Start by picking safe cleaning products, or better yet, setup your own safe alternative cleaning kit with: baking soda, borax, pure soap, washing soda, vegetable oil and white vinegar.

If you purchase off the shelf cleaning products look for the environmental choice or green seal logos for preferred cleaning products.

Georgia Strait Alliance’s ToxicSmart program has many helpful tips.
