In recent years, three B.C. environmental NGOs have been calling for a moratorium on the province's commercial roe herring fishery. However, peer-reviewed evidence indicates the current commercial harvest level is both ecologically sustainable and vital to the socio-economic and cultural well-being of Indigenous and non-Indigenous commercial fishermen and their communities.
