On January 18, 2022 Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, Joyce Murray, announced that prawn harvesters will be allowed to tub prawn tails this season, and into the foreseeable future! This is a huge relief for many harvesters who tub prawn tails and rely on this method to earn a living and to deliver food to their communities.
This issue has received overwhelming engagement from community members like YOU who have signed petitions, written to leadership, and kept pressure on this issue for the past year. Your participation is creating a more equitable fishery, and a more food secure BC! We hope that our new Minister continues to consider the needs of harvesters and the wellbeing of coastal communities into the future.
Thank you!! For signing petitions, writing to leadership, and keeping pressure on this issue for the past year!
